A-WOL Aeros Auditions

Aeros is A-WOL's Youth Training company. This 10 month pre-professional program is designed to provide an advanced training ground for young aerialists who are eager to grow in their artistry, athleticism, and performance. Members of the program participate in specialized rehearsals 3-4 days per week with a diverse curriculum as well as performance opportunities throughout the year. Students in the company establish a unique, collaborative community, and support one another in their learning. The Aeros experience extends beyond their time at A-WOL, helping establish lifelong healthy habits, a strong work ethic, and an open creative mind.

  • When: August 10th 10:00-12:00p

    • Plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early to check in, pin on number, and get settled.

  • Where: A-WOL Dance Collective 513 NE Schuyler St.

  • Who: Students ages 10-18 with 2 years of aerial experience. Students must be able to demonstrate an int/adv level of aerial fabric, and familiarity with trapeze, acrobatics, and dance. We encourage any and all to try, as this is an inclusive, and nondiscriminatory organization.

  • What to Bring: water bottle, attire suitable for dance and aerial work (form fitting with no zippers and midriff covered & hair pulled back)

  • Audition Process: Group warm up followed by dance, tumbling, theatre, and aerial segments. At auditions we are not looking for perfection or the best skills, we will be looking for confidence, good effort, clean technique, and a willingness to learn!

  • Audition Preparation Camp: A-WOL is hosting an audition prep camp for youth students that are interested in honing in on audition skills. This camp will be held 8/5-8/7 9:30-12:30p. This is a great way to gain or refine the familiarity with dance, acrobatics, and other non-aerial skills before auditioning. Register through the “Camps” tab on mindbody. By turns wicked and whimsical, Left of Center appeals to daydreamers of all ages.

SHOW BEGINS AT DARK (~8:30 OR 8:45PM)

Under the Trees at Mary S Young Park, West Linn, OR Located on Hwy 43 (2 miles north of I-205, Exit 8 or 2 miles south of Marylhurst Univ)

Suspended in trees, surrounded by beauty and illuminated by the stars... This year's show, By the Light of a Different Moon is a show about the giving of light in a world separate from our own; where Moon Queens dictate, Wanderers emerge, the Veiled welcome strange beings, the Watch is on guard and the Peacekeepers bring everyone together. Set to a commissioned soundtrack played live by Dirty Elegance, experience an evening of aerial theater as life of another kind teaches us what it means to love, accept and find meaning from the light of a different moon.  As always, this production is packed full of traditional and invented aerial apparatus, athletic and technical dance movement and acrobatics.

Live Music: Dirty Elegance playing a pre-show concert as well as a full live performance throughout the entire show.

A-WOL's Art in the Dark annual performance is a fantastical, illuminated, full-length, evening production set in a unique and rare outdoor theater style setting.  Transforming a dirt plot into a performance spot, each show is packed with the flavor of the Northwest and a wonderful taste of the talent this area has to offer!   Come see why A-WOL grabbed the attention of OPB's "Oregon Art Beat" during the 2012 season! Polaris Dance Theatre presents Groovin’ Greenhouse, a series of world premiere dance works. Polaris, along with guest dance companies from every corner of Portland, are working with established and emerging Portland choreographers to present brand new dance works in the Polaris Studio Theatre. This evening features Polaris Dance Theatre with a world premiere by Artistic Director and resident Choreographer Robert Guitron. Guitron and his company play with innovative illumination and shadow, themes of love, loss and loneliness and grapple with identifying the mix of gifts from others that make us who we are. From full cast to intimate duet, this diverse company pulls at heartstrings and demands its audience members to think in a different way. Joining Polaris this evening is also A-WOL Dance Collective. A-WOL will perform a new work titled Emergence, the process of coming into view or becoming exposed after being concealed. This innovative new piece will incorporate aerial silks and ropes.
